Nach einem leckeren Frühstücksbuffet auf der Fähre ertönt endlich die Durchsage das alle Reisenden zu ihren Fahrzeugen gehen sollen. Geschickt bepackt zwängen wir uns wieder die engen Treppen und Flure zu dem unteren Deck der Fähre um unsere Motorräder von den Gurten zu befreien und das Gepäck wieder zu verstauen. Die Bugklappe öffnet sich und dank unseres vorderen Stellplatzes gehören wir zu den ersten Bikern die die Fähre verlassen können.
Eine kurze Ausweiskontrolle und schon sind wir zum ersten Mal mit dem Linksverkehr konfrontiert. Nach ein paar hundert Metern dürfen wir zum ersten Mal links in den Kreisel einfahren, das dann auch gleich mehrmals auf die vielen kurz hintereinander folgenden Kreisverkehre. Endlich, den Stadtverkehr in Newcastle upon Tyne hinter uns gelassen, läßt eine ruhige Landstraße die erste Anspannung sinken und das Motorradfahren wird wieder zur Genußsache.
Die ersten Eindrücke der britischen Landschaft, Straßen und Orte lassen wir bei bestem Motorradwetter auf uns wirken. Nach einem kurzen Stopp am Hadrianswall finden wir eher zufällig in einem kleinen Ort eine gemütlich kleines Restaurant / Cafe und natürlich besteht meine erste Malzeit in Großbritanien aus "fish and chips".
Am frühen Abend erreichen wir dann wie geplant das Hotel in Glasgow, müssen nach dem Gepäcktransport die Motorräder noch in ein 5 Minuten Fußweg entferntes Parkhaus bringen. Nach einem kurzen Rundgang durch die Innenstadt beschließen wir den Tag nach dem Abendessen noch mit ein paar Bier.
After a delicious breakfast buffet on the ferry finally sounds the announcement that all travelers should go to their vehicles. Cleverly packed we go back the narrow stairs and corridors to the lower deck of the ferry to free our bikes from the straps and to stow the luggage back. The bow door opens and thanks to our front parking space, we are one of the first bikers to leave the ferry.
A brief passport control and we are confronted for the first time with the left-hand traffic. After a few hundred meters we are allowed to turn left into the roundabout for the first time and then several times on the many roundabouts following each other. Finally, leaving the city traffic in Newcastle upon Tyne behind us, a quiet country road can ease the first tension and motorcycling becomes a pleasure again.
The first impressions of the British countryside, roads and villages we enjoy with the best motorcycle weather. After a short stop on Hadrian's Wall we find a cozy little restaurant / cafe in a small town and of course my first meal in the UK is "Fish and Chips".
In the early evening we reach the hotel in Glasgow as planned, after the luggage transport we have to bring the motorcycles to a parking garage which is a 5 minute walk away. After a short tour of the city center we conclude the day after dinner with a few beers.
